Amaryllis

Amaryllis (Hippeastrum) Great bulb for indoor forcing. Plant in a pot that is 4″ bigger than the bulb diamter. Trim off roots that have dried up. Place in pot with neck of bulb showing above soil all the way to half of the bulb showing above soil, which ever way you prefer. Water it thoroughly. After that, do not water much; keep on dry side until bloom stalk or leaves start to show. At this time, pick up watering and use a liquid fertilizer half strength every two weeks. After blooms fade, cut flower stalk off. Keep it in a sunny window until danger of frost is past. In April, plant pot in the ground outside in sunny location. Keep fertilizing until July or August. At this time, withdraw water, let leaves dry up, then cut them off. Bring into house and put in a cool place. Lay pot on its side. Let rest 8 to 10 weeks this way. Then water it and start the process all over again. Repot every 3 or 4 years.
